Celtis bungeana (black-shot) is also called small-leaf hackberry. It is rare tree species and produces ink black fruits. The fruits are as hard as lead shot, and so the tree is referred to as “black shot tree”. This tree has lived for 400 years on the seaside cliff top of east coast of Diaolongzui Village, Wanggezhuang Subdistrict. It experiences wind and frost as well as rain and snow, absorbs the essence of the sun and the moon and has become an outstanding tree. The people and objects around it have experienced numerous circles of life. Yet the celtis bungeana survives, its branches and trunk becoming as hard as iron, vigorous and unadorned; its leaves are luxuriant and dense as well as fresh and bright, making it a dignified and magnificent being against the background of the sky.
