Jufeng Peak, commonly known as Laoshan Mountain top, is 1,133 meters above sea level. It is the highest peak on the 18,000 kilometers long coastline of mainland China. It stands like a giant guarding the sea and taking everything in the eyes. Along the 800-900 meter elevation line of the Jufneg Peak, there is a mountain tour road. Standing at almost any part of this road, tourists can see as far as the sea and the sky meets. Also along the road, there are eight mountain gates named according to the Eight Diagrams of the Book of Changes, corresponding to the eight surrounding mountain passes, which is truly a wonderful combination of the great creation of nature and the thought of ancient sages. Laoshan Jufeng Peak is the perfect choice for climbing high and gazing far, building up fitness and praying for peace.
Main attractions
The "No. 1 Famous Mountains on the Sea" Stone Carvings
The stone carvings of "No. 1 Famous Mountains on the Sea” were inscribed by Mr. Wu Zhongqi, a famous calligrapher in China, for Laoshan at the age of 95. His brushwork is vigorous, just like swimming dragons and flying phoenixes. Starting from the top, the left part of the first character resembles a magpie, representing good luck; and the right part resembles a fox full of spirituality, which means Laoshan is a place propitious for giving birth to great men; The second character resembles a greeting Taoist monk, which embodies the Taoism cultural characteristics of Laoshan. The third character resembles a peacock standing on a stone, which coincides with the Zhuque Stone on the right. The fourth character resembles a person rowing a boat, riding the wind and waves, representing the mountain and sea characteristics of Laoshan. The fifth character clearly resembles two birds in the tree: The last character resembles a shoe-shaped gold ingot, implying that Laoshan is a rare geomantic treasure land.
Lingqi Peak
The peak in the east was originally called "Xiantai Peak". Because the peak’s beautiful and narrow shape like a flag waving in the wind, it was renamed “Lingqi Peak”.
Liuhe Pavilion
The Pavilion on the top of the mountain is called "Liuhe Pavilion", also known as "Star-picking Pavilion". The Pavilion is exquisite with an antique flavor. The couplets in the Pavilion read "leaning out the pavilion to pick stars for a game of go", and "stepping on the cloud and visit divines over a pot of green tea". Step into the pavilion and look up, tourists can see all the Laoshan peaks and all islands scattered in the sea. With clouds floating around, birds singing in the woods, tourists have the feeling of "seeing the vast universe, and taking in tremendous vigor".
Sightseeing route
To visit Jufeng Peak, tourists must take a sightseeing bus up the hill. Self-driving travelers should park their vehicles in the parking lot of Laoshan Tourist Service Center. The lacing road is 8 kilometers long with a large number of cultural sculptures along both sides. It takes the bus 15 minutes to reach the entrance of the sightseeing route, which is also the lower cableway station. The elevation here is about 400 meters.
Getting off the sightseeing bus, tourists can either take the cableway or walk up the mountain. It takes about 10 minutes uphill by cableway, while more than an hour and a half to walk. Also, it is quite steep near the Tiewadian ruins and the cableway boarding station. So, take extra caution if walking uphill.
After arriving at the upper cableway station (about 700 meters above sea level), tourists can start touring the core tour route of the Jufeng scenic spot, which is a circular route along which the Eight Diagrams gates is set according to their orientation.
In terms of tour plan, if not physically fit, tourists can choose to take the right route up the Lingqi Peak, which takes about one and a half hours; If physically strong, tourists can choose to take the left route to the Five Peaks Pavilion, which takes about two and a half hours.
It takes a long time to tour all the Jufeng scenic routes. So, tourists need to plan their routes according their physical strength. If taking the cableway downhill, tourists should pay attention to the operation time of the cableway. Tourists should also take extra care if traveling with senior citizen or children.
